CONTRE NATURE

ContreNature is on-going Design by Eco-Disasters  divided into chapters.

ContreNature tackles the disasters of wildfires, pesticides, plastic-waste through a collection of everyday objects and homeware in tribute to its victims: the forests of Brazil, Greece, Siberia, France, the Pacific ocean, the disoriented bees... This project has only just begun!

Eco-Disaster #1 : Fertilizers and Pesticides

According to scientists, beekeepers and bee enthusiasts, fertilizers and pesticides do not directly kill bees but stun them. They are so disoriented that they cannot find the hive to feed their queen. Eventually, an entire generation of bees starve to death. And the pollination cycle is hampered - from pollen to the bee to the flower to the bee community -  a huge loss for our everyday lives  .

Lost Bees Lamp

The LOST Series is a collection of table and ceiling lamps, made of flowers, pine resins, and shellac that talks about the ill-effects of pesticides and fertilizers to the bees. Under light,  included in the lampshade we discover the bucolic world where bees find their pollen but we don't notice the fertilizers and pesticides that disorient the bees from returning to feed the queen bee and destroys the pollination cycle.

Inferno

The associated damages from fires in Europe in 2021 were 1,157,525.60 acres of charred forests in the European Union and nearly 500 billion euros, roughly corresponding to the total gross domestic product of Belgium.

Inferno reflects on the devastation made by wild fires and denounces the arsonists who are, according to Bachelard,* "the most hidden of criminals ".

stoneware, dry and metallic glazes, multi-firings

Inferno II

What happens when a personal ornamental object is charred by a wildfire? A candlestick is often a precious object to create an ambiance on a table. Inferno II represents the loss of a precious and  beautiful personal object.

stoneware, dry and metallic glazes, multi-firings

Interrupted Meal

A bowl and its serving cutlery dressed on the table were abandoned by the home-owners, the meal and the serving bowl were violently consumed by the wildfire and infernal temperatures.   Interrupted Meal represents a scene of flight, a man-made Pompeian disaster temporarily arrested in time.

stoneware, dry and metallic glazes, multi-firings
